Madison the City announces Emergency Notification Text Messaging

In preparation of the coming storm, today Madison the City is unveiling a new text messaging alert system that will be used to notify the city's residents about Isaac.

"Being able to effectively communicate with people instantly allows our city to be proactive in dealing with any emergency situation we are faced with," says Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler.

Residents will be able to "opt-in" to receive information on flooding, power outages, gas shortages, shelters, volunteer opportunities and storm alerts. People who wish to "opt-in" should text STORM to
601-707-8356. Instructions on opting-in can also be found on the city's website: www.madisonthecity.com.

Alerts will begin by noon on Tuesday, and will continue as needed throughout this weather event.

The city of Madison called on
bfac.com, an award-winning, Mississippi- based technology company to build a local texting system that could better inform the residents where they are- on their mobile device.
