Variance Application for 112 Woodland Drive

A formal application for a City Zoning Ordinance Variance has been requested by the occupants at 112 Woodland Drive in order to legally place three storage buildings on the property.

The following information was received from the city by email this morning:

The owner of subject address has filed for a zoning variance in regards to having the 2 accessory buildings on his property, not meeting the proper setbacks, and not having one totally in his back yard. The Zoning meeting where he will "plead" his case is scheduled for April 14. I really don't think that he stands any chance of getting the variance, but if you or someone from Bradford Place was present to contest his request, it certainly would help.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the courtroom at the police station.

Code Enforcement Officer

Please go by the site so you will be familiar with the impact it will have on our subdivision if allowed, and attend the Public Hearing at 6:30 pm on April 14 in order to voice your opinion.

The city Planning Commission held the Public Hearing in which the Application was presented and the Applicant spoke in his own behalf. There were more than a dozen people in the audience who spoke in objection to the granting of a Variance The Planning Commission voted unanimously by a vote of 10-0 to deny the Variance. This recommendation is passed on the the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for a final decision at their public meeting on Tuesday, April 14, 2014.

At the City Board of Aldermen meeting it was reported that the Variance Applicant, Ken Barthalamew, had filed a request with the City Clerk on April 15, 2014 requesting a Public Hearing with respect to an Appeal from certain recommendations and Actions of the Planning Commission.

Mr. Barthalamew was not present at the Board's May 6, 2014 meeting.

The matter will be considered at the Board's next meeting, which is on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

I checked with city hall just now and they confirmed that the Public Hearing on the actions of the Planning Commission to recommend denial of the Variance by a vote of 10 to 0 will be heard at their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 3, 2013 at 6:00 pm.

I also understand that their meetings rarely exceed one half hour, so the matter should come up quite soon after the meeting is opened.
